What does riding a blood bike involve?
Being a Blood Biker is more than just riding a motorcycle. As a courier of medical items, sometimes urgent, you need to follow protocols and procedures to ensure your consignments arrive safely.
You'll sometimes have long days in the saddle, we often clock up over 200 miles on a shift. But as bikers, we all know that's something we secretly love!
That might sound daunting but we’ll provide full training and mentorship to help you learn these skills and build confidence.
You Ride Our Bikes
We have our own fleet of fully liveried and insured bikes. The charity covers all the costs including fuel - you just need to turn up and ride.
Our fleet is currently all BMW's including some lower for those that may struggle with taller bikes.
Quality Riding Gear Essential
We ride in all weathers rain or shine, hot or cold so you need to have good riding gear.
We recommend having spare gloves and waterproof overalls as from experience we know that even the most expensive kit will eventually fail. Our bikes all have heated grips.
In very cold weather motorcycles may be withdrawn from use so riders may be asked to use one of our cars.
Flexible Shifts
We operate a shift system that offers plenty of flexibility to fit your volunteering time around your work and life.
Shifts range from a few hours in the evening through to day and overnight cover.
All Welcome
We work hard to make Derbyshire Blood Bikes an inclusive and welcoming environment. We welcome riders from all backgrounds and genders.
Sounds Great - I'm In...
We are actively recruiting for new riders. If you're interested in joining or would like to know more and ask questions please complete our online interest form and one of our team will be in touch.
